Another Baby Gift

One of my very best friends is pregnant for the first time and her shower was on New Year's Day.  Of course, I had to share what I made her for a gift.  I think that now that I have been making everyone's gifts for Christmas, I am starting to not even be able to visualize giving people a purchased gift.  I gave her this matching set with animal prints.  She doesn't know what she is having, so when I went to the store to choose material, I couldn't decide what didn't look either boyish or girlish (my bff doesn't know what she is having.), and ended up choosing the animal prints since it seems to go either way.
I used purchase terry cloth for the backs of these, and even made an extra set of them to open up my very first Etsy shop.  Please visit my shop here.  I plan to eventually figure out how to put that in my sidebar, but hey, I haven't gotten that far yet!

Here's a view of the terry cloth side.  On a couple of them, I used black thread because I like the look of it.  The front side is 100% cotton flannel.
Then, I made her a matching diaper wipe case.  I think it's so cute for something that we all have to carry around.  I did a coat of Mod Podge on the whole outside of it, because I thought that the flannel would pick up too much dirt without it.

Oh, and then the most difficult thing that I made were these adorable booties that I found here.  I found these to be very difficult to make because of the bulk of the soles of the shoes.  In future versions, I think that I will not put the double layer of felt that it recommends to put in the middle.

I also made a sideways bib - lol!  I may do a tutorial on this in the future.

So there it is, another baby gift.  I'm not sure why so many people that I know are having babies right now, but hey, I'm just glad that I have found a way to make nice, useful and cute gifts!

  3. I have a similar pattern for the shoes and I used a layer of flannel on the inside and non-skid material for the bottom. Of course, I have a walker and hard wood floors. I also have a pair that were given to my daughter that used vinyl on the bottom. Cute, but slippery:) By the way, you really did do a good job! My go to gift for baby showers is a box of diapers, but I think I might start stockpiling things like this for baby showers. I know I would have liked to receive unique gifts with my son and daughter.

  9. Flippin adorable! :) Love it! That's funny you say that about pregnancies as I am pregnant too. About 1/2 way there. I was just getting the urge to look at my seeds for winter sowing and I thought of you. Wanted to come say hi and hope all is well. Congrats on your shop. If you'd ever want a little advertising I'd love to do a review of something cute you made. And a giveaway if interested. I'll definitely be checking out your shop. I heart Etsy. Happy Holidays to you and yours.
