I just had to let all the advice that I got from my <a href="http://spartasavings.blogspot.com/2012/02/my-100-comments-post.html" target="_blank">100 Comment Post</a> and my exhaustion from reading 137 posts to settle before I could make up my mind. I have settled on Prairie Scraps. The prairie is not only where I currently live, but also where I came from. I graduated from Sun Prairie High School - so even if I'm not living on the prairie, it seems that it is a part of me.<br />
<br />
As to the Scraps, I like it. It often refers to "Scrap"booking, which I do a lot of, but it can really represent any scraps that I'm working with: wood, fabric, paper, even life! <br />
<br />
I've already change the name on my Etsy shop. Please take a look at my shop, as we are raising funds to send my 15 year old on a 4-H awarded trip to Japan in June. Take this link to check it out: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/PrairieScraps" target="_blank">Prairie Scraps</a>. I'll be changing over to a new blog and unfortunately, there's no real easy way to do that and ensure that all of you, my followers can make it smoothly with me. I hope that you'll all make the switch.<br />
<br />
So, I think the name fits! What do you think?Prairie Scrapshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17051826828338254780noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8627077726638220860.post-81755834780029932422012-03-15T14:01:00.000-05:002012-03-15T14:01:54.915-05:00Trying to be HealthyI hate exercise! There, I said it! I've tried to think of a positive way to write a post about exercise, but I can't. I've tried gyms, treadmills, biking, walking, running, everything! I hate it all! Are all blog posts supposed to be positive? This particular post, just can't be positive, because I just don't like exercise. Plain and simple!<br />
<br />
I've lost weight, then gained it, then lost it, then gained it, and on and on. Sure, I like being a smaller size, but I find it very painful to exercise to get there. So the minute I don't feel up to it, or have time for it, I quit exercise. When the pain doesn't outweigh the benefits, I don't work out (which is most of the time!) Oh, yeah, and worse, when my father says I'm fat on the internet, I stop working out! (Not that I need an excuse, but hey, I'm affected by my parents mean comments, still! Note to parents: don't comment on your child's weight, good or bad, ever!)<br />
<br />
Is it possible to actually not benefit from exercise? I mean, yes, I usually take a little off, as long as I'm eating well, too. I also know all the health benefits for the long term of exercise: lower cholesterol, lowered risk of heart disease, and on and on. But seriously, I am in pain from exercise every single day that I do it! I feel old and frankly, I feel like I need a nap every day that I work out. Everyone says to just give it time and you will feel better. I don't! I have worked out 4-5 days a week for over a year...and I still hate it and feel in pain and tired every day!<br />
<br />
So, back to having a somewhat positive post - I am going to try to report in here what I am doing to stay healthy. Not necessarily just exercise, but some of the things I find helpful. Granted - my goal right now is to just exercise 5 days a week, no excuses! Even though I know it hurts - I know that at 40 - I need to take care of myself. We own a good treadmill, and it's the least of the worst of exercise, so that's what I'm using. <br />
<br />
What about you? Do you find exercise painful? How do you keep healthy?Prairie Scrapshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17051826828338254780noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8627077726638220860.post-29634262332912722502012-03-14T10:53:00.000-05:002012-03-14T10:53:54.986-05:00Free Paint - Again!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXzY-Q-lAvOTEscE3q7jcFy6fbFboYlW-oFnlSc36bJ4dRu0NQaf7-IOuefbPCqVONnw5BejPmYGvqA-oxvFqs8lgkRGX0RQlZVgH1geLVZokATViFnTPDLQoCMy9KwMUQqqUCxD6qE1o/s1600/162039_167084297574_1690929944_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img aea="true" border="0" height="320px" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXzY-Q-lAvOTEscE3q7jcFy6fbFboYlW-oFnlSc36bJ4dRu0NQaf7-IOuefbPCqVONnw5BejPmYGvqA-oxvFqs8lgkRGX0RQlZVgH1geLVZokATViFnTPDLQoCMy9KwMUQqqUCxD6qE1o/s320/162039_167084297574_1690929944_n.jpg" width="124px" /></a>I can't believe that Ace is giving away free quarts of paint, for yet another week! How exciting can that be? If you have been fortunate enough to get free paint the last two weeks, you can get more this Saturday, March 17th. I highly suggest picking up that one accent color that you've always wanted to add to your decor, or just get a more practical color, like your favorite white or black for those projects that come up! I scrapbooked out of order! Can you believe it? I always have to go in order and everything has to be chronological! I have been trying to finish out all my paper scrapbooks and go over to my digital scrapbook, but I hate to say that as an <a href="http://www.mycmsite.com/doristowell" target="_blank">Independent Creative Memories Consultant</a>, I thought I could make the transition smoothly, but it's just not happening. In fact, I stopped paper scrapbooking last year, because I was feeling so overwelmed. <br />
<br />
With the move, I have stacks and stacks of boxes of craft things and Creative Memories Scrapbook things, and I am determined to get rid of my projects by doing them one by one, rather than just put them away or pack them away somewhere. <br />
<br />
While sorting out a box this week, I found all the Christmas Cards and letters from 2008 and 2010. Yes, 2009 is MIA. I am such a stickler about doing everything in order, that normally, I would stack those away somewhere and hope I can find 2009. But I am in that "Get' er Done" stage right now! I put them into my album! <br />
<br />
I want to share with you a couple of tips about Christmas cards and letters (and I'm not having that discussion about <span style="background-color: yellow;"><span style="background-color: white;">whether </span></span>it is a waste of time or not to send them out. I save only letters, pictures, and handmade cards for my album and frankly, found it to be fun to look at them last night!) <br />
<br />
My family album (which is where I keep the cards & letters for the year) is the 12x15 size. This way, I can get more pictures into the album than with a 12x12. I put Christmas on black pages, so I can easily find them and the end of the year. Just something I've always done. You can do this in any of the Creative Memories size albums, except the 12x15. (They discontinued the 12x15 black size, so I will just do it until I'm out.)<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7PM2Ru2SjBgioVH5RUHxIKB0yAwhC1D0sjRPKTg8nWdS9gJD5mtLz2lr38tFUvWT-HXg9F7AVvbk21oFZbEgrsB-aSlZ9vn_T5iUWARPcEzYnSZgok7LtPYbDrUd-aLJpEV65e8cBYJo/s1600/Christmas+Cards_0002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img aea="true" border="0" height="320px" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7PM2Ru2SjBgioVH5RUHxIKB0yAwhC1D0sjRPKTg8nWdS9gJD5mtLz2lr38tFUvWT-HXg9F7AVvbk21oFZbEgrsB-aSlZ9vn_T5iUWARPcEzYnSZgok7LtPYbDrUd-aLJpEV65e8cBYJo/s320/Christmas+Cards_0002.jpg" width="214px" /></a><br />
My tip for the letters is to cut the tops and bottoms off, so there is less bulk and then I simply run a piece of <a href="http://www.mycmsite.com/sites/doristowell/Content/Shop/Product.aspx?pr=InspectOffering&s=631469&dpr=BrowseCategory&ds=/Hierarchy/Paper%20Scrapbooking/Tools/Photo%20Mounting" target="_blank">Photo Tape</a> down one side of the letter and adhere it to the very edge of the page. I try to put it down outside of the actual paper and on the binding of the page. This way, the paper can go outside of the <a href="http://www.mycmsite.com/sites/doristowell/Content/Shop/Catalog.aspx?pr=BrowseCategory&s=/Hierarchy/Paper Scrapbooking/Photo Albums/Scrapbook Albums/Pages and Protectors&dpr=Search&ds=page protector" target="_blank">Page Protector</a> and be opened up. Cards can also be added this way, so the back of the card is under the <a href="http://www.mycmsite.com/sites/doristowell/Content/Shop/Catalog.aspx?pr=BrowseCategory&s=/Hierarchy/Paper Scrapbooking/Photo Albums/Scrapbook Albums/Pages and Protectors&dpr=Search&ds=page protector" target="_blank">page protector</a> and the front of the card is on the outside.<br />
<br />
I continue to line up all the letters, putting the photo tape down the same side of the pages and staggering the letters so it looks nice.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIeVoL4NaNQHuGvVHO5GOD-dCvsYMkdtNPKHwD9V8tgNscRA14LdpEpixGUa-TR1kJI76zMqiJ6Wi-739kprgJS9UMRdQiH1Nm-krFNMNjRRPQxIa5DFF8L0VKuXnEzHXVU374mzLEFKg/s1600/Christmas+Cards_0003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img aea="true" border="0" height="320px" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIeVoL4NaNQHuGvVHO5GOD-dCvsYMkdtNPKHwD9V8tgNscRA14LdpEpixGUa-TR1kJI76zMqiJ6Wi-739kprgJS9UMRdQiH1Nm-krFNMNjRRPQxIa5DFF8L0VKuXnEzHXVU374mzLEFKg/s320/Christmas+Cards_0003.jpg" width="214px" /></a>As you can see, you can then read all of the letters, yet they are taped down and going nowhere! To finish off my pages, I simply cut out the years numbers using the <a href="http://www.mycmsite.com/sites/doristowell/Content/Shop/Product.aspx?pr=InspectOffering&s=646010&dpr=BrowseCategory&ds=/Hierarchy/Paper%20Scrapbooking/Tools/Creative%20Cuts%20Collection" target="_blank">Creative Cuts Playful Numbers Set </a> with Christmas paper.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimvXd2Mz8C8ZCNQO-mkuGi_XEobcJ1F-K5eRA1dffHADDmNhimoJxvI6vQUiMLi3XzchnxaELFKpTSalEsMRRTQU7uoK2xqLYliWd1BW_MarubhITjV7wDbXOeY9tUTmW9yegQe7e1KvU/s1600/Christmas+Cards.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img aea="true" border="0" height="320px" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimvXd2Mz8C8ZCNQO-mkuGi_XEobcJ1F-K5eRA1dffHADDmNhimoJxvI6vQUiMLi3XzchnxaELFKpTSalEsMRRTQU7uoK2xqLYliWd1BW_MarubhITjV7wDbXOeY9tUTmW9yegQe7e1KvU/s320/Christmas+Cards.jpg" width="214px" /></a>For the pictures for that year, I trimmed all the photos down and made a collage on the following two pages. Also, I included our own letter and pictures there, so that we had everyone's year in review in one place. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">So, as you can see, even though I don't have the rest done around these pages, at least I know that all the letters and pictures from Christmas are in the same place and we can even enjoy them if we want!</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

While we are very excited (and nervous) to have him spend 2 months in Japan, it's taking quite a bit of fund-raising! A lot of fund-raising, in fact! <br />
<br />
As we were talking about some of our options for raising money for this trip and we decided to use our talents to raise the money. We love to craft and recycle things! One of the things we've been making and selling are Plant markers made from recycled spoons. I've wanted to make these for a long time, because I love the thought of reusing plant markers over and over, I struggled finding something that would actually keep the name on it year after year.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1zRRmIf326osU-A2v2Wu2z9Ar8fuihslCMNSRcFs_Y2vPLEJ0-or8eotScL2OvI1YR8bKiAmpBmsorCDKs8I0xqXAi-NC8O1PQJUI6PV26E2YQopsySd3oBA-EsORI6Shq8ifSLiz-XY/s1600/Spoon+Plant+Markers_0002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320px" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1zRRmIf326osU-A2v2Wu2z9Ar8fuihslCMNSRcFs_Y2vPLEJ0-or8eotScL2OvI1YR8bKiAmpBmsorCDKs8I0xqXAi-NC8O1PQJUI6PV26E2YQopsySd3oBA-EsORI6Shq8ifSLiz-XY/s320/Spoon+Plant+Markers_0002.jpg" width="214px" yda="true" /></a>Aren't they cute? I thought this would be a project that I would do by myself, and then I got a hammer out and tried to smash those spoons on the driveway. Needless to say, I did need the brawn of my son and Mr. Right to make a dent! We then use a letter press to imprint the letters in the spoon. My son added Sharpie to the letters to make them stand out.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We have sold these at the Farmers Market and craft shows, and the funny thing I hear are people that say they will make these themselves. Trust me, it's easier and cheaper to just buy them from my son and have it go to a good cause. We have gotten many great reviews about these markers. They would make a wonderful Mother's Day gift or Easter gift for the gardener.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_SR3lVNporc6AiFcKcXCARUPfVMVipPsZEXKo9mnM93B9jhBdYVIeX0xAbC07KNKLSc2YTUcH-HAcqaddCcs-QpzVQn7Y4em_SGVz7yjjiOb-nOVb5Eli0pzrQHPSTGsH-GYrVnDmitQ/s1600/Spoon+Plant+Markers_0006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214px" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_SR3lVNporc6AiFcKcXCARUPfVMVipPsZEXKo9mnM93B9jhBdYVIeX0xAbC07KNKLSc2YTUcH-HAcqaddCcs-QpzVQn7Y4em_SGVz7yjjiOb-nOVb5Eli0pzrQHPSTGsH-GYrVnDmitQ/s320/Spoon+Plant+Markers_0006.jpg" width="320px" yda="true" /></a>We have them listed in our <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/SpartaSavings" target="_blank">Etsy Shop</a>. We are happy to make them special order also, for $3. Myself, I love putting the name of the perennials in my yard on them, so that I can remember what I put there. </div><br />

</div>Mr. Right and I come from very different family backgrounds. One of the things that I haven't always enjoyed, was his family's past time of driving on the weekends. His family always got in the car and would go driving just to look around. They never had a plan or idea where they were going - they just would check things out. Mr. Right loves to do this on weekends. In the past, I usually put my foot down for this.<br />
<br />
Now that we live in a new state and area, I've been letting him have an outing each weekend, just to check the are out. I have to say, that in a new place, it is sort of adventurous. This weekend, this is what we found:<br />

Yes, we actually drove to the end of the road this weekend! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My point of this post is this, taking a Saturday or Sunday afternoon drive on occasion, is a great form of family entertainment. We will probably talk about that limited access road for a long time! It makes for great family memories and time together. We don't allow reading, music players or movies when we do this as a family. Other than a few gallons of gas, this can be a great way to spend time together and get rid of the winter doldrums! Take a ride today to see something new in your area!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

That is the Question!<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I have this really weird issue with things I've made. If I sit down to make something for a gift for someone, I have no problem parting with it, but if it is something that I made and then thought about giving it away, I can't seem to part from it so easily. So the first person I really met and talked to here in Idaho, happens to be a Stampin' Up consultant. I jumped at the chance to go to a class on a Saturday morning, and didn't really care what we made. I just had to have adult conversation and time out of the house!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The project we made was an "altered book" made out of paper. yes it's all made from paper, no book was injured in this project. Oh, before I forget, here's the my new friend, <a href="http://stampinonthecamasprairie.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Deann's Blog</a>. Here's the direct link to the <a href="http://stampinonthecamasprairie.blogspot.com/2012/02/faux-altered-book-card.html" target="_blank">Faux Altered Book</a>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUNxIz3sSTjiw9LOMcGEVMgqe9JYQl2e45U8g1gihNS7lyo4b6VBvk-lkzLaQozpRu5_i21PFXtzGDopddmRlDPINzGl2sONTaDStXenJHfqNvKx0NUZRyVR5KdXoTNo76J0Jk3tupXQc/s1600/Mom's+Birthday+Present_0007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320px" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUNxIz3sSTjiw9LOMcGEVMgqe9JYQl2e45U8g1gihNS7lyo4b6VBvk-lkzLaQozpRu5_i21PFXtzGDopddmRlDPINzGl2sONTaDStXenJHfqNvKx0NUZRyVR5KdXoTNo76J0Jk3tupXQc/s320/Mom's+Birthday+Present_0007.jpg" width="214px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I thought this was beautiful when she first showed me and I think I was just going to put it on my shelf or something. then during the class, she mentioned that she was going to give it as a gift to her mother. Well, that got me to thinking that maybe I should give it to my Mom too, who happened to have a birthday the following week. Being a procrastinator, I hadn't thought about what to do yet.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">OK, so this book did say Happy Birthday all over, I don't know why I thought I should keep it.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4O6p9M8qygMSYYqPeJ0tKujlJpm1kIYQfd16JQ4B7DFZiLH8A0jlVNd0DoGm0SpjTw2HoRKuJJE4m0nmyyPwOJWC6HR9XbecDWYwSb8AI5_qyRMcoVHrP0iZSaSRT37l2H-XLB72v3Rs/s1600/Mom's+Birthday+Present_0001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320px" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4O6p9M8qygMSYYqPeJ0tKujlJpm1kIYQfd16JQ4B7DFZiLH8A0jlVNd0DoGm0SpjTw2HoRKuJJE4m0nmyyPwOJWC6HR9XbecDWYwSb8AI5_qyRMcoVHrP0iZSaSRT37l2H-XLB72v3Rs/s320/Mom's+Birthday+Present_0001.jpg" width="214px" /></a></div>There are so many layers to this book - a little envelope on the inside with brads and twine to tie it shut. I just put a little note to have a happy birthday in there. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1dhfeZIumjTb634jL9Yl9O0e-vOyPDCQ4e6TRQpZfUp_98pOEaJibYCozDUm3qeoXsBKW2WwxKs6IGW-7pWktpDhhACuDpZ56P7JKf5pBn4HyVJN02uSAjEPr2PPss43vGr2fLE2NrJk/s1600/Mom's+Birthday+Present_0002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214px" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1dhfeZIumjTb634jL9Yl9O0e-vOyPDCQ4e6TRQpZfUp_98pOEaJibYCozDUm3qeoXsBKW2WwxKs6IGW-7pWktpDhhACuDpZ56P7JKf5pBn4HyVJN02uSAjEPr2PPss43vGr2fLE2NrJk/s320/Mom's+Birthday+Present_0002.jpg" width="320px" /></a></div>The pocket all closed up! It is so adorable. I can't believe how many layers of stamps and papers this had. I definitely never think to go this far - but I love how it turned out.<br />

I just love to make things for people, so I thought I'd stick with it.<br />

But as I got settled here, I did get a chance to kind of catch up on things, sort of...</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I signed up for the final big event to write an epic post and get <a href="http://spartasavings.blogspot.com/2012/02/my-100-comments-post.html#comment-form" target="_blank">100 Comments on My Blog Post</a>. I guess I didn't read all the details on this or even think through this totally, but I thought it would really challenge me to find a new name for my blog in my new home. And it would sort of launch a new part of my life. Well, what I didn't realize was that I would have to read 137 other blog posts and leave meaningful comments on each and every one of those posts! Yes, I read and commented on 137 different posts in eight days!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I just finished on the final few hours of the final day (imagine that - I procrastinated until the last moment!). OK - I really worked hard on this and wanted to really read all the posts! I checked in between every few posts, my own growing comments. I was excited to see it hit 100! Well, so far it hasn't hit 100 yet, (if you haven't gone there yet, please read my post and comment to help out at <a href="http://spartasavings.blogspot.com/2012/02/my-100-comments-post.html#comment-form" target="_blank">My 100 Comments Post</a>) which I'm trying hard not to be too disappointed about.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Also, I thought it would clear up what the name of my blog should be - I'm not sure I can decide yet. Funny how I couldn't make up my mind, but some of you couldn't either. Please stay with me here, I'm going to take a little time to be away from the naming game, but in the meantime, I am going to be showing what's going on here in my new Prairie Life (will that be the name? I'm not sure!). So stay tuned...I'm getting back into the swing of things on the blog!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I was all excited when I decided to join everyone else in this challenge, but then of course came the big question - "What was I thinking?" Well, I wanted the top to be big, I wanted it to be interesting, and I wanted you to want to help me get to 100 comments by commenting on this post. What better topic than what's going on in my life? <br />

</tbody></table>We have just moved, so I am in need of changes on my blog, changes in my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/SpartaSavings" target="_blank">Etsy Shop</a>, and possibly a move for my blog. So here's the topic of my Big Post: What should I name my blog and Etsy store? So many people have such clever titles and names for their blogs and their shops, and I want to come up with just the right one! So here's where you come in - I need your help (and your comment) to help me come up with a name. Obviously, I can't keep my blog and shop name of Sparta Savings, since I don't live in Sparta anymore (I'm sorry to my readers who read me only for my Sparta hints.)<br />
<br />
I want to write about things that are going on in my life on my blog. I want to include ways that I save money, craft, recipes and anything else that interests me in the moment. In fact, I feel like I have maybe limited myself too much in the past by naming it Sparta Savings. I know you are supposed to pick a direction for your blog, but I think this time around, I can't make it quite so specific. Here are some of the thoughts that I have that are important to keep in mind about me when naming the blog:<br />
<br />
<ul><li>Mother of 5</li>
<li>Homeschooler</li>
<li>Sewer (I hate to seemstress, because that makes it sound like I fix things, which I hate mending!) - Sewing is probably my favorite craft!</li>
<li>New Resident to the Camas Prarie in Idaho</li>
<li>Airstreamer</li>
<li>Scrapbooker</li>
<li>Love to decorate</li>
<li>Favorite style - shabby chic crossed with funky junk</li>
<li>Christian</li>
<li>Things I like to make: baby bibs and accessories, hair pieces and pins made with flowers, bows and feathers, table runners, pillows and Christmas stockings</li>
<li>Restore found "junk" into a new life</li>
<li>Couponer</li>
<li>Love Freebies!</li>
</ul><div>I thought I'd make a top ten list for you on the names that I have thought of (in no particular order):</div><div><ol><li>Junkture ID (Idaho)</li>
<li>Camas Creations</li>
<li>Creative Camas Life</li>
<li>Prairie Life Creations</li>
<li>Prairie Junk Life</li>
<li>Prairie Scraps</li>
<li>Relife Idaho</li>
<li>Westward Scraps</li>
<li>CP Junkture (Camas Prairie)</li>
<li>You Name It!</li>

I was extremely excited to hear that the state we just moved to actually has school off for President's Day! It's unheard of in Wisconsin to take the day off of school for our forefather's rather than for the Teachers and the Teacher's Union. I thought in honor of the day, I would do a study on Presidents Lincoln and Washington. I just wanted to share with you the freebie I found to go with it! Click this link for the Study: <a href="http://www.currclick.com/product_info.php?products_id=27568&it=1&filters=0_0_0_0_0_0" target="_blank">President's Day Freebie</a>. I am sorry to those of you that are regular readers for my lack posts in the last couple of months, but we had a big event happen - we have moved! A job was offered to my husband across country and after trying to say no, we couldn't resist! Everything fell into place for the move, so we made very quick preparations to move across the country. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Aside from a little bump in the road on the way to our new home (we blew the engine in our truck), we are happy to report we have made it and are starting to settle in. By settle in, I mean that we have gotten back to school, bread is being made and I have meals frozen in the freezer. On the other hand, I have piles of boxes in every room of the house that seem to never get unpacked! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, my first goal this past weekend was to get all the boxes out of the living room and pictures up on the wall. I wasn't totally successful on both fronts (there are still some boxes), but I did get a gallery wall up in my living room! I am so excited about it too! I've wanted to do a gallery wall for about a year now, but didn't know where to start. Moving helped, as I was able to bring all my pictures and knick-knacks together in one place and decide what to do.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNQcQnHxFAAswjvEK7swEGqAK_QTzjw93hhh34hmzBrcdlv1YXQRWxcdeP9zNiAIb_1IOg4m6FBemau7PsFKg7GEQuN8z1f5GZ0WmgrG-2vt5cSNbPYQdVmpHVb-NTrW0J7Ac4tVCrUjk/s1600/dsc_3065.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNQcQnHxFAAswjvEK7swEGqAK_QTzjw93hhh34hmzBrcdlv1YXQRWxcdeP9zNiAIb_1IOg4m6FBemau7PsFKg7GEQuN8z1f5GZ0WmgrG-2vt5cSNbPYQdVmpHVb-NTrW0J7Ac4tVCrUjk/s320/dsc_3065.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I am trying to move my style over to more of a junk style, but I struggle with it looking cluttered, too. This is really my first attempt at using some of my favorite junk to start my wall. I decided to choose the things I really loved first and then added to it to make it fit together. I used <a href="http://www.thenester.com/" target="_blank">The Nester's</a> awesome living room wall as inspiration. I also tried to go on Pinterest for other gallery wall ideas, but decided that I just plain love The Nester's wall! (On a side not, I need those tan and white striped curtains, too!) <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe84H5tjuviOIuNsNKURo0-4Ed-Ox85oqQ6WghNJACaQUTcx4V9K2BaDBZl2tiSMma5RIrb0cvSoM5WhOt7gFDNlCtpyctSOe3wS2j3fvTtW4YmpbY8-xOGJnMeMg1DZhyfQeXYUdIcuE/s1600/dsc_3066.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe84H5tjuviOIuNsNKURo0-4Ed-Ox85oqQ6WghNJACaQUTcx4V9K2BaDBZl2tiSMma5RIrb0cvSoM5WhOt7gFDNlCtpyctSOe3wS2j3fvTtW4YmpbY8-xOGJnMeMg1DZhyfQeXYUdIcuE/s320/dsc_3066.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The pieces that I started with are the big "&" sign that my friends gave to me as a going away gift - thank you Rachel & Stacy, the type set drawer on the right, the whit screen and the Airstream picture on the lower right corner. I hadn't planned on putting any photo pictures up there, because I have heard that you shouldn't have photos in your living room, but I ended up putting pictures that I really love and have a lot of meaning.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRWp5dRXyIZxeV5NMmidi2IOkuAdIePNu30YemqqVJq7MgAldiwE6CXdwbnxsH26P-9iw3WfIFNV0VYfIv9dkmcqS094EFDN2yLjQuyjwUZez7xAWKYMMCFczJ_peUmt6D2LWg2cqZbfQ/s1600/dsc_3069.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRWp5dRXyIZxeV5NMmidi2IOkuAdIePNu30YemqqVJq7MgAldiwE6CXdwbnxsH26P-9iw3WfIFNV0VYfIv9dkmcqS094EFDN2yLjQuyjwUZez7xAWKYMMCFczJ_peUmt6D2LWg2cqZbfQ/s320/dsc_3069.jpg" width="320" /></a>So to give you the whole story behind everything, the pictures on the top and middle left are my Great Grandfather as a semi-pro baseball player. The bottom left picture is my Grandparents' wedding photo. My favorite "&" sign and below that, my kids. I used an empty frame to make a picture of Mr. Right and my honeymoon picture. Below that is a wooden white "S" for our last name and an antique mirror that I was going to paint, but just can't bring myself to do that yet. Then to the right of those are my white screen with a lathe star that we made (and I will be selling on my Etsy shop soon - that is as soon as I get the boxes unpacked enough to list them! lol). On top of that are three aluminum plates that Grandfather made. My typeset drawer which I got at a rummage sale for only $2 is on the top right, with a few small antique pots and pans for a doll stove that my Grandmother had. The bottom right picture is our first trip with our 1953 Clipper Airstream several years ago.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0U1pAUDOJVfU1ITk4s3FcKLXQ-ODUxTggUs5UJ7uZnz5JX3ru1SA_oXcJMJC5sFdGfp6QKPUO_A-DQ4163MPbEKokki8qTYm2Ki7ciLYNRNpVIQ4csKuaOurcEDsVNSYzvel3vr7aCKE/s1600/dsc_3067.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0U1pAUDOJVfU1ITk4s3FcKLXQ-ODUxTggUs5UJ7uZnz5JX3ru1SA_oXcJMJC5sFdGfp6QKPUO_A-DQ4163MPbEKokki8qTYm2Ki7ciLYNRNpVIQ4csKuaOurcEDsVNSYzvel3vr7aCKE/s320/dsc_3067.jpg" width="214" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8UW3xRDTq4MFX4xnbYNHV4S94nnNibFnwTtL2U2LYak3yjyIB-DAVICq6VpCD5In5Ikk19etGuAz77IDIRLYH_2pcq6Oj6tLG5cHWcUuTZbaD_xYfKwokWtzOgoumGvVY_ldVJzGPhlQ/s1600/dsc_3070.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8UW3xRDTq4MFX4xnbYNHV4S94nnNibFnwTtL2U2LYak3yjyIB-DAVICq6VpCD5In5Ikk19etGuAz77IDIRLYH_2pcq6Oj6tLG5cHWcUuTZbaD_xYfKwokWtzOgoumGvVY_ldVJzGPhlQ/s320/dsc_3070.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I also got this little corner of the living room set up. That bookshelf in the corner has all of our albums that I have made. I used my "crate" window and replaced the kids pictures with maps of the state we moved from and the state we moved to. I have sort of a map theme here, I have the globe in the corner and a glass globe bowl on the shelf too.<br />
<br />
I hope I didn't bore you with all of the details, but thought you'd like to see what I've been up to in the last few months. It may take a little bit to get extremely regular in my posts again, but please bear with me. I'm also considering a name change and a new Etsy shop name, too - so stay tuned for more exciting changes coming soon!<br />
<br />

We wanted to give them something to show we appreciated, but of course, we were on a limited budget for the year.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Sparta MOPS right now has three round tables that we sit at for our meetings, so we divided making the bags into three different chores. One table made the cocoa and bagged it up, one table made the card on the front, and the other table assembled and bagged everything up. I wasn't sure how this would work out for us, but it went really smoothly and we had a great time working together, too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhra_Vd2LEqW9FatTiRWejMTz52NJo3uqNTSCkXMdkbCarIPjIBNyFeUjp59IfHMKjsgN1yAMeBXh8tdUm3DSYpKrITYMOhzaVzUBfoJeoHnApCY9luOJ9DWod8GlMO1k7aV0ED5Qc3tHY/s1600/Hot+Cocoa+gift+bag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhra_Vd2LEqW9FatTiRWejMTz52NJo3uqNTSCkXMdkbCarIPjIBNyFeUjp59IfHMKjsgN1yAMeBXh8tdUm3DSYpKrITYMOhzaVzUBfoJeoHnApCY9luOJ9DWod8GlMO1k7aV0ED5Qc3tHY/s320/Hot+Cocoa+gift+bag.jpg" width="214" /></a></div>
So, the inside of the bag had hot cocoa, a bag of mini marshmallows, a candy cane, peppermint stirring sticks, Hershey's kisses and Andes mints.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWXwr4EJHlannKp92_IiygMtUfiQl6greXUzEuduotcj63dgYmH94JtiR-igKDr_9DIduLvwIMbaAfHo-mR4dg5ehpDixELNLq0wTCHqUzowE2xza7VLG24szI284rbKqsQeEQ8E_-Jg8/s1600/Hot+Cocoa+gift+bag_0002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWXwr4EJHlannKp92_IiygMtUfiQl6greXUzEuduotcj63dgYmH94JtiR-igKDr_9DIduLvwIMbaAfHo-mR4dg5ehpDixELNLq0wTCHqUzowE2xza7VLG24szI284rbKqsQeEQ8E_-Jg8/s320/Hot+Cocoa+gift+bag_0002.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
We had a cute poem that I found on the internet, but now I can't find it. I am so sorry to whomever I stole it at this point. I had it earmarked and for the life of me, I can't find it again! Here's what it says:<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Was told you've been real good this year,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Always glad to hear it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
With freezing weather drawing near,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You'll need to warm the spirit. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So here's a little Snowman Soup,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Complete with stirring stick.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Just add hot water, sip it slow,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's sure to do the trick!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We asked if there were people in our group if they wanted to contribute ingredients to make these, and we got donations for everything, except the bags! We made enough so that each Mom in the group could take one home, plus six extras for our Moppets workers for around $4! Not bad for Christmas gifts!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

I'm sure most of you have been busy getting ready for the Christmas season, as I have also! I've been so busy with getting my gifts made and some other major life changes, which I can't go into quite yet, that I haven't been posting as much as I'd like to. I'm going to share one of the gifts I've been making for my daughter. She asked for a large purse, so when I saw this pattern at <a href="http://www.iammommahearmeroar.net/2011/09/tohoku-tote.html" target="_blank">I am Mama Hear Me Roar</a> for a Tohoku bag, I knew that I had found a great purse for her. I hope that she likes it, because I am very excited about it!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNAjoHN5k_g6T8TcNW5h-qg_KIRiUwRlelFfYWFy5w4h17M9OSe7HCAafgGnE_nP4SKEAWPsK-qAycEGbPiQyJTN105mQjYg6yPBu-ozvbdMDgXvIhXDHU65b_Gs3H_ycJNcg4e7vPjEg/s1600/Purse_0001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNAjoHN5k_g6T8TcNW5h-qg_KIRiUwRlelFfYWFy5w4h17M9OSe7HCAafgGnE_nP4SKEAWPsK-qAycEGbPiQyJTN105mQjYg6yPBu-ozvbdMDgXvIhXDHU65b_Gs3H_ycJNcg4e7vPjEg/s320/Purse_0001.jpg" width="214" /></a>It has a pleat in the front and I did the droopy bow.</div>

The material was from some that I had on hand. The black, red, and white is a wool material and the top section is from a skirt that was gorgeous, but didn't look right on me. It has a very fine pin stripe in it. The inside of the purse is lined with the skirt lining - a satin.<br />

I made the handle out of the skirt belt. I think that it turned out great and cost me nothing!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I thought I would share an update of what we did for our Jesse Tree. I put up our biggest fake tree in the middle island between the kitchen and living room with just lights on it, and then each day, we'll update it with the new ornaments. I actually made three copies of the ornaments, so that we can use two, and then I'll save a hard copy for next year, if I want.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Oh, my daughter made the wreath at MOPS last week, so that had to be added to the Jesse Tree! Cute, huh?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZoYoI-NfG92rLPJXORsqxfGJMefXHzTO8skM_AJ1WSaBgRCIO8Z6U_Wrws3vp1as6zMui315g5qCX6-qDAnqS3QWUVxZ0KG2ierzlr0fGAzrX8VYDZn9h2InI418SetNo3Jots2eB5bI/s1600/dsc_2178.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZoYoI-NfG92rLPJXORsqxfGJMefXHzTO8skM_AJ1WSaBgRCIO8Z6U_Wrws3vp1as6zMui315g5qCX6-qDAnqS3QWUVxZ0KG2ierzlr0fGAzrX8VYDZn9h2InI418SetNo3Jots2eB5bI/s320/dsc_2178.jpg" width="214" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's a closer look at the ornament. It's really simple and cheap to make. I just used some leftover scrapbook paper, cut into a 3"x3" square and then used a <a href="http://www.mycmsite.com/sites/doristowell/Content/Shop/Product.aspx?pr=InspectOffering&s=610968&dpr=Search&ds=corner%20rounder" target="_blank">Corner Rounder</a> to make the corners pretty.<br />

I don't have a picture for this project, because I am going to do it for the very first time starting December 1st, but I wanted to share it with you also, so you can use it too. The best thing is that it is free to do with your kids. </div>

I don't know if you know what a Jesse Tree is, but the printable actually describes it for you. Basically, you can read a scripture story to your young children, while they color a corresponding ornament. You cut them out and attach it to a 3"x3" card stock or scrapbook paper and hang them from a tree. I think it's a great way to focus your kid's perception of Christmas onto the actual story of Christ. </div>

I just wanted to share with you a little shabby birdie that I included with an order for someone on Etsy. It is going with four of my Chenille Stockings - so I made it all white to go with them. I am trying to just go the extra mile with my orders for my Etsy shop, so thought it would be exciting to get a Christmas ornament that I wasn't expecting.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdfeUcYNSQw8swnUAmp_nYhpF_cUsET01LKD9R7Oc0uPUYgkRXaILSl13kDC_A4TshfR6vqftCwDK_2Rzi654RZgxdWICXHwp4mB23U5JOFSSuQ5AvcCgfQQsKrfwBX5OpF8XsSVRM2Xc/s1600/Shabby+Birdie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdfeUcYNSQw8swnUAmp_nYhpF_cUsET01LKD9R7Oc0uPUYgkRXaILSl13kDC_A4TshfR6vqftCwDK_2Rzi654RZgxdWICXHwp4mB23U5JOFSSuQ5AvcCgfQQsKrfwBX5OpF8XsSVRM2Xc/s320/Shabby+Birdie.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I used a scrap of the Chenille to make the bird body and then a scrap of a floral cotton for the wing. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

As you know, I have been getting busy for a craft show with some friends this last weekend. One of the things that I really wanted to make, but just didn't get to was a burlap table runner. So one hour before set up, I set out to make a burlap table runner with ruffles. This turned out to be my absolute favorite item that I made, and of course it sold! I thought I would share this beauty!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsqwvlAvn6SDagtZk3TE3NMqE212RPL0LxNDPFqxTkTscSYqdWlM0SYa4NVr6o-D1mYlymIfCRZs-Y0T0uORGtTZIyVvO_KZqfTMC9kfR32wnlULHaqNoNWjjjf0O3kAHidp9CaBXrJiU/s1600/Burlap+Table+Runner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsqwvlAvn6SDagtZk3TE3NMqE212RPL0LxNDPFqxTkTscSYqdWlM0SYa4NVr6o-D1mYlymIfCRZs-Y0T0uORGtTZIyVvO_KZqfTMC9kfR32wnlULHaqNoNWjjjf0O3kAHidp9CaBXrJiU/s320/Burlap+Table+Runner.jpg" width="214" /></a>It was 17 inches X 55 inches long. It went the whole length of my table and had some hanging over.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9m3kl9KoghISNa1nIzBIdgVmtDWWH7e-PsAK6BmiQnyJPGAh-8pcXYWK-w19oedl_sdOGSj3xm9MhvM2aLJqHcx_N_p_u-Xlg3tce8mmF83OKeJsgK5woXVC88QWBjq80RG_nYOeXL_g/s1600/Burlap+Table+Runner_0001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9m3kl9KoghISNa1nIzBIdgVmtDWWH7e-PsAK6BmiQnyJPGAh-8pcXYWK-w19oedl_sdOGSj3xm9MhvM2aLJqHcx_N_p_u-Xlg3tce8mmF83OKeJsgK5woXVC88QWBjq80RG_nYOeXL_g/s320/Burlap+Table+Runner_0001.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I put ruffles on each end of the runner. The burlap was from a coffee sack and the ruffle from the edge of the material I used to back a quilt a few years back. It was already cut and folded in half, so it was perfect for this project.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwFNF0SfKqXREVqdvuFLbwfualgm8i8SXKrucEbAy7KJaat2HT5Qdu3Vj3xLn3AYkg57HrdGHL-Xu5CqHxyIx4eDxS26qjVFIOCpV0h2YhjoByhm0FwFrGPZp0qYRblH95kK5IqKmi97Q/s1600/Burlap+Table+Runner_0002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwFNF0SfKqXREVqdvuFLbwfualgm8i8SXKrucEbAy7KJaat2HT5Qdu3Vj3xLn3AYkg57HrdGHL-Xu5CqHxyIx4eDxS26qjVFIOCpV0h2YhjoByhm0FwFrGPZp0qYRblH95kK5IqKmi97Q/s320/Burlap+Table+Runner_0002.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I measured it out to have this stripe down the middle of the runner. It was down the middle of the sack.<br />

I am going to have to make some more of these for sure...what do you think? Just wanted to invite everyone in the Sparta area to the craft show at the Sparta High School tomorrow from 9am-4pm. I have been crafting like crazy trying to add to a friends booth and make a little money. I just wanted to share with you what the booth looks like. We have a lot of stuff!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlrq1XjnmCtUnIBQwAc8-IlStEfpNqj3-g9eE7Ed8Ohrbx5zGhnuHQMhmpREmDw9e2IsiQURV6lTjyIupVrkPoXDxV261DDolMhl5I1mY3Z8j2cDuFMYmztv4HcaOjJ9cYZ2xYrnulum4/s1600/Sparta+Craft+Show.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlrq1XjnmCtUnIBQwAc8-IlStEfpNqj3-g9eE7Ed8Ohrbx5zGhnuHQMhmpREmDw9e2IsiQURV6lTjyIupVrkPoXDxV261DDolMhl5I1mY3Z8j2cDuFMYmztv4HcaOjJ9cYZ2xYrnulum4/s320/Sparta+Craft+Show.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's really hard to believe that today is the last day! It is sort of bittersweet - it will be nice to take a day off, but it was very exciting to come up with new ideas each day. It has been a big challenge to keep up and yet this has really challenged me to find my creativity. I feel much more comfortable with my creating! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Today's should be something huge, but hey - I'm all about keeping gifts real and simple. This one in fact, is very practical, but I think that any Mommy or young one will love to have these cute little snack bags that are reusable.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last Friday, a new cereal box was opened (OK, this happens about every other day here.) but I asked my son to wash out the bag inside the box out. I went to grab it today, and Mr. Right thought that it was garbage over the weekend and pitched it! Well, I did what any other craft crazy Mom would do - I opened a brand new box and emptied it into a Tupperware, so I could have that bag!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMiBWOYx4omL5-lmICSQ-r0EXlsXlYX9Tdhc36IQY04u80xT5DbFZQEnlAHFv5PAJPRoyTRll1iWlIW5OsLdK4jHp-vSJc-4aIiqNzYf-KV5AzawEqVpoENMFfkYEjLKZpdoEVWmqLFjE/s1600/Reusable+Snack+Bag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMiBWOYx4omL5-lmICSQ-r0EXlsXlYX9Tdhc36IQY04u80xT5DbFZQEnlAHFv5PAJPRoyTRll1iWlIW5OsLdK4jHp-vSJc-4aIiqNzYf-KV5AzawEqVpoENMFfkYEjLKZpdoEVWmqLFjE/s320/Reusable+Snack+Bag.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I also took out some much coveted Packers material I've been hoarding in my material stash.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRMoEwuXosTx8Wwfu7wvLDym8f1PN7tuOGZ0VaURlbDbMgh4-K95aH0M3EncQZq5wKjLqNX4-AwvLRMXLYy8ZHMPbuJ_7wOA-ZsZI88UpetJC7LJKuLfhxSLGFEnJRiFy5Wk43EWWs-Kg/s1600/Reusable+Snack+Bag_0001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRMoEwuXosTx8Wwfu7wvLDym8f1PN7tuOGZ0VaURlbDbMgh4-K95aH0M3EncQZq5wKjLqNX4-AwvLRMXLYy8ZHMPbuJ_7wOA-ZsZI88UpetJC7LJKuLfhxSLGFEnJRiFy5Wk43EWWs-Kg/s320/Reusable+Snack+Bag_0001.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I cut out a piece of the material and the plastic in a 12"x6" piece.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGiHOq_lnrEGCTEBePYqIuZaT88b3AFDzlY8qlZ5qlrVLdZ0Rys4aCFGk4B1aWdAKv7UrGViTkZ7Ds9lIFLALpC_z35qbDstxpt_4eQPwPUwMwcE6PkEmbvxnjATY86iwtScXJM06lpLk/s1600/Reusable+Snack+Bag_0002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGiHOq_lnrEGCTEBePYqIuZaT88b3AFDzlY8qlZ5qlrVLdZ0Rys4aCFGk4B1aWdAKv7UrGViTkZ7Ds9lIFLALpC_z35qbDstxpt_4eQPwPUwMwcE6PkEmbvxnjATY86iwtScXJM06lpLk/s320/Reusable+Snack+Bag_0002.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Fold each piece in half, matching up the short ends, and sew down the two sides. The plastic is a little slippery. I found if I started from the fold side, it stayed together a little better.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEierOIHeEJfAbFJJO0jYgKJVYXE9UWCaiJHYu1MW9QqVxLYhPaI14yc2AJbPjgjC8tDATgD6WHAW7ecmPeQ4iVyVIRVMCX0lQ3rNk0Qj0MgvmOE9B2hsxrfEX6rFjoTPIbzNozdzFNWBq8/s1600/Reusable+Snack+Bag_0003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEierOIHeEJfAbFJJO0jYgKJVYXE9UWCaiJHYu1MW9QqVxLYhPaI14yc2AJbPjgjC8tDATgD6WHAW7ecmPeQ4iVyVIRVMCX0lQ3rNk0Qj0MgvmOE9B2hsxrfEX6rFjoTPIbzNozdzFNWBq8/s320/Reusable+Snack+Bag_0003.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Press the material with the right side - but not the plastic! This will be the last time you can press it, because you don't want to melt the plastic.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqO9Bn23vLKt0alKItQQyunU1a1gCyZ-t_KSViKgSd6XxqvImemrnlHoC86b_zlOyGowk9DvgMIOTEfk-HxxHROLqNU-b0LqHnUwz9IHJ8GTagwR2am_ucdYCKdUo7VRZ5vOtU3pshQm8/s1600/Reusable+Snack+Bag_0004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqO9Bn23vLKt0alKItQQyunU1a1gCyZ-t_KSViKgSd6XxqvImemrnlHoC86b_zlOyGowk9DvgMIOTEfk-HxxHROLqNU-b0LqHnUwz9IHJ8GTagwR2am_ucdYCKdUo7VRZ5vOtU3pshQm8/s320/Reusable+Snack+Bag_0004.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Then you need to clip the edges of the plastic down to 1/8" away from the seam. Put the material inside the plastic bag, lining up the seams and right sides together. Sew around the top edge, leaving a couple of inches open to turn the bag inside out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5bSbXJK2XzTNWO7Z9wN8H_AeVqtWaaqGcaA5y9Yy6zlLKVKkSWEw7R0TcIOGBH_BfPcSOnJ4S5GwxBgQWPnih94zbFBxXyb3w2hrNyD_KE3bfa4QdFef-ovVOlvpTgtdBLx1uSlBFHGs/s1600/Reusable+Snack+Bag_0005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5bSbXJK2XzTNWO7Z9wN8H_AeVqtWaaqGcaA5y9Yy6zlLKVKkSWEw7R0TcIOGBH_BfPcSOnJ4S5GwxBgQWPnih94zbFBxXyb3w2hrNyD_KE3bfa4QdFef-ovVOlvpTgtdBLx1uSlBFHGs/s320/Reusable+Snack+Bag_0005.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Flip the bag inside out and finger press - not with the iron! Pin a 4 1/2" piece of Velcro near the top edge of the bag on the inside. Sew close to the edge all the way around the bag, closing the opening and attaching the Velcro at the same time. Sew another seam all the way around the bottom of the Velcro.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHq9pgTrZVDM18m-eUo81k5Yb2dleES7_LoBX-HcbCnj56u41_t6BDLi4xsjNoLApWzpCdwnwHdNC8QI87WJWb6phyphenhyphencuAegSd49eGlOh4H_zN0etTWF5yBq4ey3BAZxMvWt2yDc_9Ut_0/s1600/Reusable+Snack+Bag_0006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHq9pgTrZVDM18m-eUo81k5Yb2dleES7_LoBX-HcbCnj56u41_t6BDLi4xsjNoLApWzpCdwnwHdNC8QI87WJWb6phyphenhyphencuAegSd49eGlOh4H_zN0etTWF5yBq4ey3BAZxMvWt2yDc_9Ut_0/s320/Reusable+Snack+Bag_0006.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here's what the inside looks like - all water proof and food safe, because Cheerios come in this bag!<br />

Of course the outside, showing off it's Packer spirit! Won't a little boy love this for Christmas!<br />

Today's gift is for a young child - I would say little girl, but to be honest my son gets just as much joy out playing with the kitchen and pretend food. I did an easy one today, because I want to see if I could figure this one out for doing for our MOPS group this year. I think that it would be fun to make some pasta for our toddlers. I found this wonderful site that has a list of free tutorials, so find the food you'd like to make for your little one <a href="http://www.ohdeedoh.com/ohdeedoh/diy/how-to-make-felt-food-our-gigantic-list-of-tutorials-135005">here.</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6_V1naK1RNXkybwQQqFMa7YRq-47VqBlEKTG_HRWjUOPAsZkyMwibsuGOaXOnkM2iXo9-dPHxQWh3qPJA0O_lrp_nwhK0EKsFV6H2EqFVzcnM0tj5h0nktY2sol06wT3D7LThKawnAzE/s1600/Felt+Pasta.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6_V1naK1RNXkybwQQqFMa7YRq-47VqBlEKTG_HRWjUOPAsZkyMwibsuGOaXOnkM2iXo9-dPHxQWh3qPJA0O_lrp_nwhK0EKsFV6H2EqFVzcnM0tj5h0nktY2sol06wT3D7LThKawnAzE/s320/Felt+Pasta.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I am going to show you bow-tie pasta. Cut a 1 1/2" strip of felt of your choice. I am making whole wheat pasta today. The green kind looked really cute in the tutorial I used. The tutorial said to cut the strip first and then use the pinking shears to make the edge, but I used the pinking shears to cut it and saved myself a step.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuSgw4qC05LlFO-kBR1UMrg8a0kM-tUoN062T8SO2L0OMj6VxXzRO4Q5kNhyBjJNsXbTOR1uajo1bByecnv6P1KDop1vnbeuzBtryMEx8bGr5GvpOkb5_oyx-g7sf59Y5ngRe7dHd2_IU/s1600/Felt+Pasta_0001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuSgw4qC05LlFO-kBR1UMrg8a0kM-tUoN062T8SO2L0OMj6VxXzRO4Q5kNhyBjJNsXbTOR1uajo1bByecnv6P1KDop1vnbeuzBtryMEx8bGr5GvpOkb5_oyx-g7sf59Y5ngRe7dHd2_IU/s320/Felt+Pasta_0001.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Then use a regular scissors to cut 1 inch wide strips.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I first tried to sew the bow-ties together, but found it hard to hide the knots. I went to fabric glue and had a moment of brilliance! I used clothes pins to hold it in place! You want to fold the bow-tie into a W shape.<br />

Today's gift, I won't bore you with a tutorial, because if you've been anywhere on the blogs, you've seen dozens of tutorials for this. Although everyone seems to be making barrettes and pins, it seems there are never enough, though. Everyone could use a pin or barrette to match every outfit. My challenge to you is to make a new type for a friend that would love a new hair piece or pin for their lapel. Here are a few that you may enjoy:</div>

One of the most important gifts at Christmas, and yet most forgotten is the Christmas Card or Christmas letter! I know that many in their effort to simplify their lives have stopped this tradition, but I urge you to either continue or resurrect this thoughtful process. If you are looking to simplify, scrutinize who you send cards to, but don't stop altogether. This is truly a way to stay in touch with those that you may not hear from, but once a year. My soap box is over now, and I'm going to share with you a neat idea for making a card this year! Beware - it involves a snowman!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOPmTcmMUuphyPZydJqL2mnoJkdDf8WiuWyYS3-7Xh84ajsOhdC1tvdXFZqscbIhEIJi7oUNVGm3bJ-48-Wtyb6FlBwUL0IuBaTjDSGy2WSX89M1qskuRUClQoEry2Ob1SHw8rVWs77Uw/s1600/Button+Snowman+Card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOPmTcmMUuphyPZydJqL2mnoJkdDf8WiuWyYS3-7Xh84ajsOhdC1tvdXFZqscbIhEIJi7oUNVGm3bJ-48-Wtyb6FlBwUL0IuBaTjDSGy2WSX89M1qskuRUClQoEry2Ob1SHw8rVWs77Uw/s320/Button+Snowman+Card.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I cut a piece of card stock in tan a little smaller than the 3x5 card that I decided to use. I also found 3 buttons that are in 3 different sizes and glued them onto the card stock. The smallest button needs to have 4 holes and glue it on as a diamond shape with the holes. Then use some DMC floss to make eyes. What I did was make a French not out of black through the two holes for eyes and then down the other two buttons as you like to make buttons. <br />
<br />
To make a French knot, bring your thread up through the top, tie a knot (I usually run the know through 2-3 times to make it bigger), then run your thread back through the bottom, but keeping your knot on the top. You will also make a French knot with orange floss through the bottom of the diamond for the nose.<br />

Using the <a href="http://www.mycmsite.com/sites/doristowell/Content/Shop/Product.aspx?pr=InspectOffering&s=631424&dpr=Search&ds=tape%20runner">Tape Runner</a>, adhere the snowman card stock to the card.<br />

I used a 1/4" wide piece of ribbon to tie a knot and glue it on the neck. I used the <a href="http://www.mycmsite.com/sites/doristowell/Content/Shop/Product.aspx?pr=InspectOffering&s=634044&dpr=Search&ds=snow%20maker">Snow Maker</a> to cut out some snowflakes to decorate the card.<br />

On the inside of the card, I used a scrap of the tan card stock to stamp Merry Christmas and also decorated with another snowflake.<br />
<br />
This really isn't that difficult to make and is really cute. What better way to show someone you are thinking of them at the holidays, and it adds a nice touch to make it yourself!Prairie Scrapshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17051826828338254780noreply@blogger.com0
