This project I've been seeing all over the Internet, but I have actually been doing rag quilts for many years with blue jeans. Rag quilts work so wonderful for boys beds because they are so durable, that I love to make them for my boys. Well, my daughter needed a quilt for the fair this year, as she had signed up for quilting in 4-H. I thought this would be a quicker project for her to be able to complete.
My daughter is 11 and likes to sew, but only for a time. Getting big projects done is difficult, especially if she has to rip things out several times. She's not as particular as I am, but I grew up learning that if you sew, you make it right.
I think the best tutorial for doing this project is over at Creations by Kara. I don't think it is necessary to go through making a mini quilt of this, but it may be just me that doesn't like to do things twice. I don't try out dress patterns either. The only change that I did was make this quilt more rectangular by adding an extra row. You'll notice how her quilt ends up being a little more square than mine. I just like to have my quilts in the rectangle size.
Don't you think my daughter did a wonderful job on this? I can't wait to bring the new baby home with this blanket! She got a blue ribbon on her creation at the fair! I am so proud!
